How to Find a Reliable Christian Counselor
- Ask your pastor or another leader in your church to recommend someone they have found to be biblically sound
- Ask discerning friends for a reference
- Ask the potential counselor the following questions
- What is their education, theology and counseling methodology?
- What are their views on the sufficiency of Scripture?
- What do they believe is the nature and role of sin in a marriage?
- How do people change?
- Would you ever recommend divorce? Under what circumstances?
If their views on these questions fail to align with biblical teaching you should continue to look for a counselor who is more biblically sound.
